Master Gardeners Collaborate To Support The Lilac Festival

MSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers, State of Michigan State Parks, and the Mackinac Island Tourism are a partnering for the care and education of the lilacs and gardens on Mackinac Island.  Members of NMMGA supported the annual Lilac Festival with:

  • Anne Borowicz, Lilac Tour Docent and Master Gardener of the Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association led daily walking tours

  • "MSU Extension Ask the Gardener" educational opportunities for the public to talk to the Extension Master Gardeners. General garden topics were covered. Literature to support lilac care was offered.

  • Maintenance of a booth by Master Gardeners with Smart Gardening credentials

  • Activities for children

  • Assistance in the care of the Lilacs during a scheduled work force day in July. Trimming and pruning of lilacs was involved.
